We never want the hair we have, do we? If I had it my way, my hair would be soft, silky and straight as a board. Instead I’ve been bequeathed with a ridiculously thick head of randomly-wavy, course hair. At the salon, I can see the fear in my hairstylists eyes, (especially the assistant that gets to do my blowout.)

Since I am all thumbs when it comes to styling at home, I’ve chosen to rock a straight style; that even with my juvenile blowout technique followed by a junior-varsity level flat iron skills, is at least passable for public viewing ;)

Thanks to Aveda and SheSpeaks, I’ve been given the opportunity to take Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight for a spin. The benefit of Naturally Straight is that it “progressively straightens curls with every use. After 5 consecutive applications of naturally straight, hair will stay straight for up to 3 washes.”

  • As you blow-dry your hair, plant-derived fibers help create a locking layer to help hold your hair straight, day after day*
  • Organic cassava root helps form a barrier against intense humidity to help you forget about frizz
  • Straight styling becomes faster and easier

Here’s a quick video where you can see my before look. (Do not adjust your browser. The colors you see are accurate. ;) ) I posted this video to YouTube 3 days after a professional blowout and flat iron style, followed by 3 days of 100 degree weather and 30-40% humidity.

So, armed with my Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight products, I followed the instructions provided by Aveda:

  • Step 1: Wash hair with Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Shampoo and follow with Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Conditioner. Towel dry hair and comb through.
  • Step 2: Apply Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Style-Prep Smoother to damp hair, by working it through from the mid-shaft through the ends of hair.
  • Step 3: Apply Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Naturally Straight. Depending on hair length and thickness, start by using approximately a small coin sized drop of Smooth Infusion™ Naturally Straight styling creme on towel-dried, still-damp hair, from mid-shaft to the ends, applying it one section at a time. PRO TIP: Aveda’s Global Artistic Director of Textured Hair, Tippi Shorter recommends dividing your hair into 2 pigs tails, circling each tail between your thumb and forefinger. That diameter is the amount of the product you should use. Also, she recommends doing this with each side, since hair can differ in density one side from the other.
  • Step 4: Blow-dry hair straight using the brush of your choice. Flat iron if desired.

Prior to blowdrying, my hair looked like this:

After using the Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight and a blowdry (seriously, this is probably what hell will be for me. Perpetually blow drying my own head)

I love it. This is what my hair usually looks like after a flat iron! Lots of volume and shine and as straight as I get in a salon!

After Blow drying, the chore of flat ironing my hair was so much easier — I probably spent half the time I normally would. Just last week, my hair had been stripped of its base color and my hair felt really dry, almost crunchy. Today it feels soft and silky and I can’t stop touching it. I love the shine!

And here is the reveal! :)

One application down…4 more to see my hair remain straight through 3 washes :)

  1. This looks really cool and I like your hair color! I have bleached/dyed hair too and it gets frizzy because it’s so processed so I’m excited to check this out!
