Cheap Dresses on Amazon

If you’ve ever shopped the Amazon Fashion pages, you may have run across some cheap Dresses on Amazon and wondered about the quality. (or maybe you heard about the famous Amazon Weather Girl Dress!)

As it turns out, I was in need of a black dress for a memorial service. Not being able to find something in my local stores, I turned to Amazon (limiting my search to items available with Amazon Prime shipping, as I am not able to wait 2 – 4 weeks for the dresses to arrive). Since Amazon makes returns simple, I ordered 6 dresses.

Many are available in multiple colors and patterns. Given the reason for my purchase, I chose to stick with black. Most of these dresses are based on Asian sizing, so pay attention to the sizing chart pictured (not the Amazon clickable size chart link)

Here’s what I ordered priced from lowest to highest. Please note: Amazon prices are subject to change….

My main objective to finding a dress was nothing too form-fitting. I like to hide my tummy with a full skirt ;) and I tend to go for a classic/vintage feel…

For reference, I normally wear a size 14 – 16 depending on the designer.

The Star Vixen Women’s Plus-Size Long Sleeve Lace Skater Dress with Belt had the lowest price of all the dresses I purchased , currently priced at $8.95.  The reviews are mixed and the model shown above looks unhappy :( . But with only a few reviews, half of the reviewers rank it 5 stars.

Actually, this is probably the dress I will end up wearing (after replacing the very cheap belt) The material is light and airy and it looks formal enough for the occassion.

The BeautyCreator Women’s 1950’s Classic Party Casual Swing Dress is one I have high hopes for. Unfortunately, there are no reviews. The price is a steal – currently priced at only $9.99. I’m not sure of the length yet, but I am drawn to the clean, classic lines as shown above.
I also purchased a petticoat for $11.98.

I feel like I could have gone down a size. And the length is very long – down to mid calf. The material itself is gorgeous. A weighty, stretch jet black rayon, but the length plus the 3/4 sleeves made me feel a bit engulfed in material.

The ACEVOG Vintage 1950’s Floral Spring Garden Party Picnic Dress Party Cocktail Dress is currently priced at $24.90 and 75% of the reviewers rank it with 4 stars and above. It’s available in lots of solids and print. I’ll try it with and without the petticoat and I’ll probably add a scarf or shrug.

This is a keeper – I ordered it in the black rose print and blue & white polka dot patterns too!

The MUXXN Women 1950s Vintage Retro Capshoulder Party Swing Dress is currently priced at $36.99 and is available in 24 colors/patterns. The reviews are good. 89% of reviewers rate it 4 stars or above. I really like the detail at the hem.

But this dress is very long. I would say tea length/mid calf. Again, I felt engulfed in material even those the fit was nice.

Here’s another with great reviews. 86% of the reviewers give it 4 stars and above. The Miusol Women’s Retro Hepburn Style Half Sleeve Swing Bridesmaid Dress is available in red or black. and currently priced at $37.99

Cute with a vintage feel! Might not work for those with larger breasts, but for those of us with little ones ;), the beautiful neckline enhances your curves!

What attracted me to the MUXXN® Ladys 1950s Rockabilly 3/4 Sleeve Swing Vintage Dress is the satin detail at the neckline and the faux crinoline at the hemline. Currently priced at $39.99, the dress is available in 9 colors and a blue & white polka dot pattern. It gets 85% 4 -5 stars from the reviewers.

Very cute – but extremely costume-y. I felt like a character in Mildred Pierce!

All in all, I say take a chance on these dresses. Of the dresses I purchased, the actual material was high quality and the craftsmanship of the design was very well done. I didn’t notice crooked seams or any missed stitches. They do ship in plastic bags, so be prepared to whip out that iron. ;)

If you’re able to find similar styles at your local department stores, you’d probably pay closer to $100 – $150 for each dress. I would say, go ahead and take a chance after reading reviews like this and paying close attention to sizing . The dresses I received are well worth their price and since Amazon offers free returns on most items (sold through Amazon), you might find your next favorite ensemble for a terrific price!
