Recently, AJ from the fabulous So Cal Lady Bloggers group suggested that we try to “walk a mile in another blogger’s shoes” by guest posting on someone else’s blog, with the topic decided by the blog owner! I put Xenia from Raised By Culture to the test by asking her to write about her family’s saving strategy…this post is yours, Miss Xenia!
I love a good deal but hate doing the work so you’ll rarely ever find me couponing. Not that I’m against it at all, I am just lazy! I know everyone is in search of ways to save money but the reality is that not all of us are deal savvy like my friend Gracie here! I am totally envious of her skills (she should totally teach a class one day!) I’m just excited in the instances where I will remember to do a quick search on coupon codes and actually find a winner..
…but the real way we save money in my home is shopping at designer discount stores like TJ Maxx (now online too!), Marshalls and occasionally Last Call by Neiman Marcus, Off Fifth (Saks Fifth Avenue) and Nordstrom Rack, using deal apps, having a membership at Sam’s Club and Amazon.com, and my favorite after thrifting of course is… the .99 store! And not all .99 stores are the same – some locations offer better products so I have been known to drive around for 2 lb. strawberries and seasonal items! I’m guaranteed to check out the store a couple times a week during Halloween, Summer and Christmas! Last Halloween we found Yo Gabba Gabba costumes for $2 each! We bought a whole bunch and donated them to a local kids’ home!
The best .99 store finds are always:
- Mini Seedless Watermelon
- Organic Salad Mix
- Tomatoes (on the vine!)
- Fingerling Potatoes
- Mini Bell Pepper
- French Rolls
- 7 lb. bags of Ice
- Best Foods Mayonnaise
- Party Supplies – napkins, plates, utensils
- Candy (especially for pinatas, goodie bags or Halloween)
I can go on and on at what we’ve scored! This is how our family saves money! Now that I’ve shared my money saving secret, what are your favorite .99 store finds?
